The Road Goes Ever On and On

Evening hike in

Hitting the trailhead after a long week at work for the short hike into Long Lake, we only needed our headlamps for the last half hour.

Woke up to grey skies which soon gave way to blue as we made our way up the valley past the “upper” lake.

A steep scramble followed by a ridge walk led us to the peak of Mt Gandalf. There a rather precarious stone on its side led to the top…

Fantastic views of the surrounding lakes and mountains were seen while heading towards Mt Aragon.

After Mt Aragon we made our way off the ridge to begin our trek back to camp.

Our route took us past several more alpine lakes and along the flanks of Mt Shadowfax.

Final evening

After a long day hiking we arrived just after sunset back at camp in time for a short dip in Long Lake.
